"Your imperfections are marks of authenticity ... And that is the beauty of YOU."
How many times have you set out to do something only to take a step back and say that you aren't good enough?
How may times have you pulled back and said, "I need more experience" or "Someday" or "No one is going to listen to me because I'm not an expert."
I think I have personally done this more times than I can count.
This is what I like to call perfection paralysis. I'm not sure where I heard the term the first time, but as soon as I did, I was like 'aha!' it all makes sense now.
In my years as a business owner and employee I have watched many great ideas go to die because people (including myself) were simply fearful of being imperfect.
I want to encourage anyone who believes they have a good idea, business or anything that they want to pursue to go after it. It's okay not to be perfect. In fact, the older I get, the more I am drawn to imperfect people.
People relate to people who are real.
People relate to people who are truthful.
People relate to people who are authentic.
See a trend?
You aren't perfect. It's okay. I'm not perfect either. But we can still shine and share our human-ness (is that a word?) with the world. Being yourself and being real with people might just be enough to make a difference in the life of another person. You don't have to be perfect to inspire, motivate, encourage, spread kindness and help others. You just have to be YOU and that is enough.
A few years ago, my soul sisters and I all wrote the statement, "I am enough" on the palm of our hands and then took a selfie and shared it on social media. The comments that followed were incredible. Many women said, "I love that, I want to do that, too!" Others asked why we were sharing I am enough on our hands. It opened a conversation that was much needed at the time. You are enough... just the way you are. You are perfect... just the way you are. Try this at home and post it online.
Rather than strive for perfection, strive for progress. I was feeling defeated and unsuccessful in so many areas of my life simply because I thought everything had to be perfect. After some time of feeling burnt out I realized I will never be perfect. I have to go after my goals in business, life, relationships, fitness and everything else NOW. Waiting for the perfect time is never going to happen and time is going to pass any way.
So I leave you with this. Be YOU. Be Authentic. Go after what you want whether other's will judge you or not. You are perfectly enough - and that is perfectly enough for me!
